New SeNSS Director
We are pleased to announce that Prof Ismene Gizelis has been appointed as our new Director and replaces Prof Pamela Cox, who has stepped down after serving in the role for over 2 years.
SeNSS would like to thank Pam for her enormous contribution during her stewardship: from introducing a widening participation strategy, and creating a student journal (Sentio), to all the other innovative and creative initiatives introduced over the past 2 years. SeNSS has been shaped by Pam’s vision and drive.
Pam said, ‘I’d like to wish my successor, Ismene, every success. On a personal note, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the SeNSS core team, Felicity, Paul, Abi and Elliot, and to Fragkiskos as Deputy Director, for their invaluable support and hard-working commitment to this consortium’.
Ismene said of her appointment, ‘I am truly honoured to follow in Pam’s footsteps as the new Director of SeNSS. It will be a big task to follow her work in securing and developing a vibrant community of early career researchers under challenging circumstances. Under her leadership, SeNSS has pioneered many initiatives such as developing its widening participation strategy and its flagship Digital Social Research training programme, amongst many other great initiatives. Building on these achievements, I aim to promote the value of social science research and enhance the training and resilience of young and early career researchers. We continue to strive to increase inclusivity, and to tackle common misperceptions inhibiting PhD studies among BAME students and first-generation students’.
