What is Business Boost?

Building on previous funding in 2019, the Universities of Essex, Surrey and Sussex have been awarded further funding by the Economic and Social Research Council, through the National Productivity Investment Fund, to deliver additional activity which will build the capacity and capability of social science doctoral students (PGR) and Early Career Researchers (ECR) to engage with and create opportunities to collaborate with business.

The three universities will be providing a comprehensive programme of activities for all PGRs and ECRs across SeNSS.

Are you eligible?

Business Boost activity is available to you if:

  • You are Social Science Postgraduate Researcher (PGR)

    You are undertaking doctoral-level research working towards the award of a PhD in one of the 10 SeNSS universities.

  • You are a Social Science Early Career Researcher (ECR)

    You are employed in a post-doctoral or academic research position by one of the SeNSS universities and typically have up to 8 years of experience in this role.

‘Business Boost ’, will focus activities in three key areas. Simply review the activity under each area and apply.

Building capacity and skills - a series of training opportunities which will cover a range of areas relating to commercialisation of research/working with business

Facilitated Engagement with Businesses - hosting events that bring PGR/ECR together with businesses/business challenges

Funding to support projects - a variety funding schemes which will provide small grants to enable projects between PGR/ECR and specific businesses.
